I made my first hat a few weeks before Madie passed away. When she gave me her pattern, the instruction that came with it said for me to call her and she would walk me through putting it together. I knew she wasn't feeling well, so I didn't want to bother her and just made it on my own. I sent her a picture of my friend wearing the hat, so she knows I did it. But, I wasn't sure if I was making it the same way she did it. Hers were always so awesome!
Thursday, I received a box of her sewing accessories and well as a few of her hats. It was very emotional for me to go through her sewing crafts and I treasure all of it because it was hers and she loved sewing with a passion! I am blessed to have had such a wonderful step-mom! Once I looked over the hats that she made, I found that I am making them correctly (except for one minor detail). Her pattern was also enclosed.
It's been almost 2 months and it seems like a bad dream. When I think of her, she looks so great. I am blessed to have great memories!

More Madelyn Hats...
I have been working on more hats in my spare time! I have two blue tye-dye and one pink and khaki finished. Pictures to come! My next shipment will have 12 hats. Looking forward to attaching the nice new tags and getting them out. I'm not 100% sure where they will be going, possibly MD Anderson. That is where Madie received most of her treatment. It's hard to believe it's been 33 days since she passed away!

New tags!

The Madelyn Hat tags arrived today! Each Hat or Shopping Cart Handle Cover donated or purchased for a loved one will sport one of these lovely tags! I think Madie would have liked the print for sure! The color teal is used for Ovarian Cancer Awareness.
I am thankful for the people who have asked me to make hats for their friends! It makes me feel like my step-mom is still here!

This is my dear friend Jennifer and her Madelyn Hat! You can make a cuff to cover less of the ears or wear it with out the cuff, like Jen. Poor Jen received the very first Madelyn Hat, which I goofed on and didn't realize it until recently. So, she'll have a new one soon! :) Thanks Jen for being my beautiful model!

An ending brings a beginning...
On December 31, my step mom lost her 4 1/2 year battle with Ovarian Cancer. She and I shared a love for sewing. She was sewing her whole life, I've been sewing about 4 years.
She was an amazing woman and handled her life on chemo with what can only be described as "God Given Grace". She was almost always positive, even through the worst and lived her life to the fullest. Because of her faith, she died knowing she would live forever.
It is in her memory that I am using her chemo hat pattern and making hats for other people fighting this terrible disease. Please bare with me, I am still learning. I do hope that each person receiving a Madelyn hat, knows that it was sewn with great love and prayers for a cure!
